Ashoke Chatterjee

Ashoke Chatterjee has had a distinguished career, contributing significantly to design education, rural development, and artisan support in India. Educated at Woodstock School, St. Stephen's College, and Miami University, he spent 25 years at the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad, where he served as Executive Director, Senior Faculty, and Distinguished Fellow. He played a key role in making NID a globally recognized institution in design education and training. Chatterjee's involvement with projects like the Rural University initiative at Jawaja and his long-standing role as the honorary president of the Crafts Council of India highlight his commitment to integrating design with development. An author of notable works on art and empowerment, he continues to influence design education and artisan support, contributing his expertise to both Indian and international projects.
